Men’s Soccer Defeated 2-0 at Hofstra

Pride currently receiving votes in USC Poll, ranked No. 25 by CSN

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Jordan Hoey and Patrick Staszewski each netted second-half goals, leading Hofstra (5-1-2) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (1-3-3) in a non-conference men's soccer match on Saturday evening at Captain's Field. The Pride entered the day receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) National Poll and ranked No. 25 in the current College Soccer News Poll.

Hoey's goal, which was his first of the year, came in the 69th minute. It was set up by a long throw-in from James York. The throw was headed by Sean Keane and landed right by York who fired the ball into the net from close range.

Staszewski's score, meanwhile, was also his first of the year and occurred in the 86th minute. He headed in a cross from Lewis Johnson, giving the Pride some breathing room the rest of the match.

Binghamton, meanwhile, played Hofstra even through most of the match. The Bearcats held a 5-4 lead in total shots through the first 45 minutes. In goal, senior Natan Jemaneh Admassu finished the day with four saves - which included a pair of diving stops.

In the second half, however, Hofstra had the majority of chances, out-shooting the Bearcats 8-3. Even so, with 21 minutes left in play, the match was still scoreless.

"I thought we were fantastic in the first half," interim head coach Tommy Moon said. "We had a great game plan and our guys executed it very well. Hofstra definitely played better after halftime and unfortunately, a game is defined by moments and they had two moments when they got their goals. We are disappointed with the result but Hofstra is a very good team and tonight was a good learning experience for us going forward."

There were several players who Moon cited as standing out against Hofstra.

"Khayr Ogunsanya and Ben Church were very good in the back as was Natan in goal," he said. "It was great to have Zach Bonuito starting again in the midfield and Anthony Randazzo was good up front."

Binghamton heads to Cornell on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
