HANOVER, N.H. – The Binghamton volleyball team's (7-4) seven-match winning streak came to an end Saturday as the Bearcats were defeated by Boston College (9-1) in straight sets during the Dartmouth Invitational at Leede Arena. Binghamton ultimately fell 25-12, 25-21 and 25-19.
Briana Binagi recorded a career-high five service aces for the Bearcats. Meanwhile,
Viktoria Dimitrova put up 10 kills. On defense,
Hannah Olmstead recorded four blocks.
The Bearcats took control early in the first set, going up 5-1 against the Eagles. But Boston College went on a 19-5 run to take the lead at 20-10. After the Bearcats scored two straight points, the Eagles closed out the frame by picking up the final five.
Binghamton responded in the second set. Down 5-2, the Bearcats scored six straight points to move ahead 8-5. During the run, Binagi recorded four of her service aces, forcing Boston College to call a timeout. Both teams then traded the lead before Boston College eventually went ahead 20-19. The Eagles then went on a 5-2 run to close out the set and extend its lead in the match to 2-0.
Boston College raced out to a 13-6 lead in the third set. Trying to avoid having its winning streak snapped, Binghamton kept the score close, eventually getting within four points at 23-19. But the Eagles prevailed by scoring the final two points to win the match.
Binghamton closes out its weekend at the Dartmouth Invitational by facing Quinnipiac at noon on Sunday.
