VESTAL, N.Y. – This weekend marks the beginning of a new event for the Binghamton golf team, as the Bearcats face both Colgate and Le Moyne in the inaugural Central New York Challenge Cup.
The 36-hole tri-match will be split into two rounds. The opening round takes place Sunday at Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, N.Y. Meanwhile, Monday's final will be held at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott, N.Y.
This event provides Binghamton an opportunity to compete at its former home course, En-Joie Golf Club. The course was home to the Bearcats from 1988-2006, and hosted Binghamton's home tournaments, such as the BU BC Open and NBT Bank Classic. Today, the course is best known for hosting the PGA Tour Champions' DICK's Open each summer.
The last time Binghamton competed in a tri-match was in the spring of the 2008-09 season when the Bearcats finished second in the Patriot Shootout. Earlier that season on Oct. 19, Binghamton defeated both Cornell and St. Bonaventure after shooting 302/14-over par as a team. Jake Katz won medalist honors for the Bearcats after he posted a score of 72/even-par.
The Bearcats last competed at Navy's invitational, The Goat, the prior weekend.
Enzo Allain tied for 25th in the tournament. The freshman has tied for 25th in each of his first two collegiate tournaments.
Sunday's round begins at 12:50 p.m., while Monday's final round at En-Joie starts at 10:30 a.m.
