Five-time All-American Andrew Kim enters his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Binghamton volleyball program in 2025.
A native of Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., Kim just completed a decorated collegiate career of his own. In six seasons, he earned All-America honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on five occasions between his time at Vassar and Hobart College, the first player in NCAA Division III history to accomplish that feat. He was also named National Player of the Year by the AVCA in 2023, the first player in Vassar men’s volleyball history to receive that honor. Additionally, Kim holds the all-time career kills record in NCAA Division III with 1,828 in 443 sets.
Kim began his collegiate career playing at Vassar from 2020-23. Aside from being selected as the national player of the year, Kim was also named an AVCA First Team All-American twice (2021, 23), an AVCA Second Team All-American once (2022), AVCA North Region Player of the Year twice (2021, 23), and was a three-time All-United Volleyball Conference (UVC) First Team selection with the Brewers. He compiled 952 kills, 113 assists, 117 service aces and 395 digs in 278 sets played. He holds the program records for aces per set in a season (0.81 in 2021) and service aces in one match (11 versus Elmira on March 21, 2021).
Ultimately, Kim helped Vassar win the UVC championship in both 2021 and 2023, allowing the Brewers to qualify for the NCAA tournament each year. Vassar reached the quarterfinals of the national tournament in 2021 and the semifinals in 2023.
Kim carried his momentum to Hobart in 2024, helping the newly-established program to a winning record in each of its first two seasons. In each of those seasons, the outside hitter was named the first AVCA First Team All-American in program history, the AVCA Regional Player of the Year and a UVC First Team All-Conference selection. In 169 sets played, Kim recorded 877 kills, 348 digs, 89 service aces and 69 assists.
In the classroom, Kim excelled as he was named an Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) in 2023 and 2025. He also made five-straight UVC All-Academic teams between his time at Vassar and Hobart (2021-25). Kim received a bachelor’s degree in statistical mathematics from Vassar in 2023 and a master’s degree in higher education from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2025.
