WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Javonni Simms scored 3:20 into the first sudden-death overtime period, leading Hartford (14-3-3) to a 1-0 win over Binghamton (3-11-5) in an America East men's soccer quarterfinal game on Saturday night at Al-Marzook Field.

Simms, who now has seven goals, fired his decisive blast from 20 yards out. The ball went just inside the left post.

Binghamton had a chance to win the game in the final seconds of regulation but Hartford goalkeeper David MacKinnon stopped a shot by freshman forward Alex Varkatzas.

MacKinnon came through again in the first minute of overtime, making a save on a shot by junior midfielder Ben Nicholson. That set the stage for Simms' heroics.

"I could not have asked for more from our guys that they gave us tonight," head coach Paul Marco said. "It took a world-class goal to end our season tonight. There is an emptiness knowing that we won't go back to the training field tomorrow. But that same emptiness drives us for next year."

Senior back Robbie Hughes and senior forward Marts Reid-Warden both played in their final matches. Each player joined the program as a transfer and started the past two seasons.

"The most disappointing thing for me tonight is that I don't get to coach them again," Marco said. "They are both outstanding people who have meant a lot to our program."

NOTES: Binghamton and Hartford also went to overtime during their regular-season game three weeks ago. That game ended in a scoreless tie.
