Women’s Basketball Opens Season At Akron Tournament

Bearcats face host Zips on Friday at 6 p.m., Delaware State on Saturday at 1 p.m.

STORY LINES
  • Binghamton enters its first season under Linda Cimino, who was named the head coach back in April. She arrives on campus following a successful eight-year run as the head coach at Caldwell (N.J.) College. In eight seasons, she led the Cougars to a 128-100 record, including a 90-52 mark in her final five years. In the four years prior to her arrival, Caldwell went 39-71.
 
  • In their lone exhibition game of the 2014-15 season, the Bearcats defeated Mansfield 83-60 on Nov. 7 at the Events Center. Freshman point guard Jasmine Sina poured in a game-high 18 points while senior forward Sherae Swinson finished with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Junior guard Kim Albrecht and freshman guard Imani Watkins each added 16 points.
  • Akron finished the 2013-14 season 23-10 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Sina King, who missed last season with an injury, was named to the All-MAC West Preseason Team.  The Zips cruised to a 100-62 win over Ursuline in an exhibition game last Saturday.
 
  • Delaware State, which plays in the MEAC, finished 8-21 last season. The Hornets are led by Raven Bankston, who averaged a team-best 21.3 points per game last season and was named third team All-MEAC.
