VESTAL, NY - The Binghamton swimming & diving teams were defeated by Cornell on Sunday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. The men were fell 89.5-60.5 while the women lost 113-56.
"I think we showed a lot of heart today coming off a meet yesterday at Drexel," head coach Brad Smith said. "We were definitely in it for the first part of the meet. Both of our teams were fighting. We had season-best times swam today and we never gave up. Cornell is a great program and they brought their a-game today."
Despite the defeats, both the men and women turned in a number of impressive efforts. The women swept the top three places in both the 100 butterfly and the 200 IM. In the 100 butterfly, Selina Ng was first (58.98) followed by teammates Courtney Foley (1:00.26) and Shannon Lampe(1:01.37). In the 200 IM, freshman Maria Trivino took first with a time of 2:09.66 followed by Stephanie Malyszka(2:15.91) and Katie Chung (2.18.27).
The men followed suit securing the top three places in the 200 IM with Liam Cashin grabbing first (1:54.94) followed byRuan Zorgman (1.58.74) and Tommy Cummings (2.03.93). In addition, Liam Cashin and Andrew Duszynski took the two top places in the 200 free, with times of 1:45.51 and 1:46.32 respectively.
Other individual winners included Corinne Zotter in the women's 100 breast (1:06.37), Caitlin Kelly in the women's 50 free (23.96) and Brian McKenna in the men's 50 free (21.51) saw victory in their events.
The Bearcat women also secured the top spot in the 200 medley relay as Lampe, Zotter, Ng and Kelly clocked a time of 1:47.39.
The Bearcats will return to the pool for the Bucknell Inviational November 21-23.
