BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Binghamton women's lacrosse team fell to host Vermont, 19-7, in an America East matchup, Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field. The Bearcats (6-9, 0-4 AE) trailed by just three at halftime, but were outscored 13-4 by the Catamounts (11-5, 2-2 AE) in the second half to drop their sixth straight contest.

Binghamton's attack was led by junior Renee Kiviat, who netted her second hat trick in three games. Classmate Alex Fisher recorded a pair of goals while freshman Bri Arthur upped her team-leading total to 34 with two goals on the afternoon. The first-year player from Watertown, N.Y. also added a pair of assists for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats jumped out front first as Arthur netted her 14th free position goal of the season to hand Binghamton a 1-0 lead at the 26:35 mark of the first half. Vermont quickly responded with a 4-0 run to take a three-goal advantage with just over 17 minutes remaining in the half.

Binghamton scored two of the game's next three goals as senior Angela Vespa found Kiviat inside the fan for her 17th goal of the year. Soon after sophomore Sophia Racciatti connected with Fisher who dispensed her 11th goal of the year in the back of the net to pull the Bearcats within in two, 5-3, at the 7:34 mark of the first half. However, a man-up goal by Vermont with under a minute to go handed the Catamounts a 6-3 lead heading into the half.

Vermont sprinted out of the break going on a 4-0 run to push its lead to seven. Kiviat's second goal of the day stopped the bleeding momentarily, but Vermont answered with back-to-back goals to take a 12-4 lead. Arthur tallied her second score of the day on a feed from Racciatti with just fewer than 18 minutes to play. However, Vermont responded with an emphatic 7-0 run over the next 15 minutes to push out to a 19-5 advantage. Goals by Fisher and Kiviat, each assisted by Arthur, in the final two minutes closed out the scoring.

Sophomore goalie Erin McNulty made eight saves as her record dropped to 5-9 on the season. Kiviat added four ground balls and four draw controls. Arthur picked up three ground balls, but was just 1-for-4 in free position attempts.

Vermont outshot Binghamton 39-22 led by Sydney Mas, who netted five goals on six shot attempts. Mas is the nation's active leader in career goals with 214. Jessica Roach also netted five goals while Vanessa VanderZalm tallied four for the Catamounts.

Binghamton fared well in the draw circle winning 13 of the 27 total draws, however Vermont controlled the draw in the second half going 11-for-17. The Catamounts won the ground ball battle 20-16, while forcing the Bearcats into 21 turnovers.

Binghamton has a week to prepare for its final game of the 2014 season as UMBC makes the four hour trip from Baltimore next Saturday, April 26. The Bearcats and Retrievers are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. The women's lacrosse program will honor its three graduating players in Erica Foley, Kara Pafumi and Angela Vespa prior to the game.
