CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Binghamton baseball belted two home runs and collected 13 hits en route to a 9-3 win at ACC-member Boston College Saturday afternoon at Pellagrini Diamond. The Bearcats (20-21) won for the 10th time in 12 games, scoring nine straight runs against BC's bullpen in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Senior second baseman Daniel Nevares continued his assault on opposing pitchers with another home run. With the Bearcats up 3-2 in the seventh inning, Nevares sent a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left field for a three-run shot - his third home run in the last four games and fifth of the season. He has 19 RBI in his last 10 games. Two batters later, senior first baseman Shaun McGraw ripped a two-run shot over the wall in left center to stretch BU's lead to 8-2.

Each team scored a run in the ninth inning.

The Eagles (20-30) used a two-out, two-run home run to jump ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. After managing just four hits and no runs off BC's starting pitcher, Binghamton went to work on the hosts' bullpen with three runs in the sixth and the five-spot in the seventh.

In the sixth, BU scored three runs on three hits. McGraw got BU on the board with an RBI double but the key hit came off the bat of senior shortstop John Howell, who hit a two-out, 1-2 pitch to center field to score two runs and give BU a 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, junior starter Jack Rogalla (W, 5-6) worked out of a two-on, no-out jam with a strikeout and inning-ending double play. Rogalla scattered five hits and two runs in his 6.0 innings. He struck out four and walked one. Junior Greg Ostner earned his fourth save of the season with 3.0 innings of work. Ostner gave up a run on five hits.

Nevares and McGraw had three RBI apiece. McGraw now has 18 RBI in his last 16 games. Howell went 3-for-4 with two RBI and senior center fielder Bill Bereszniewicz scored three runs and stole his league-leading 19th base. Freshman catcher Eddie Posavec went 2-for-4.

The teams play the final game of the abbreviated two-game set at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The Bearcats are idle from America East play this weekend but moved up in the standings and also officially clinched a berth in the four-team conference tournament, meaning BU will defend its title from 2013. Binghamton (10-10 AE) is currently in third place, behind Stony Brook (16-4) and Hartford (15-4). Maine has clinched the other postseason spot and the Bearcats and Black Bears will battle for the third seed as the regular season concludes next weekend… Binghamton is the only team in the America East to finish in the top-3 in each of the last seven seasons… The Bearcats are still playing without two of their four starting infielders and have one-third of their roster unavailable with injuries (10).
