BALTIMORE, Md.- The Binghamton volleyball team fell, 3-1, at UMBC Sunday afternoon. Freshman
Gabby Alicea scored 20.5 points to lead the Bearcats in the America East match at the RAC Arena. The Retrievers won by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, and 25-17.

After dropping the first two games, BU rallied in the third to keep the match alive.
Sarah Ngo hit
Erin Shultz and
Bianca Anderson for early kills, giving Binghamton a 3-1 edge. Down 4-3, BU scored three points in a row, highlighted by Anderson and Shultz kills.

UMBC (8-10, 2-2 America East) inched closer again, but Ngo assisted on an Anderson point and then
Bailey Walker served an ace, as the Bearcats grabbed a 10-6 advantage. Later in the frame, Alicea posted an ace and
Kristella Morina scored, making it 14-10. Walker followed with a kill from the back row and then Ngo and Anderson combined for a block and a 16-11 difference.

Anderson then registered a kill and a block with Alicea, giving BU a 19-13 lead. Ngo found Alicea for a point and Burgess for a pair of kills, as the Bearcats took a 23-16 margin. Morina scored to get to set point and Anderson and Burgess closed it out with a block, forcing a fourth game. BU hit .375 in the set.

Ngo produced 43 assists. Alicea scored a career-high 20.5 points and collected 15 digs. Walker contributed 17 digs and Anderson notched 11.5 points. Burgess added 10 kills.

The Retrievers closed out the contest with an eight-point victory in the fourth.

BU (4-15, 1-4 America East) returns home for a conference match against UMass Lowell on Friday, October 16. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the West Gym.
