VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Hartford netted the game's lone goal in the 80th minute and the Hawks (8-2-2, 2-0-1 AE) edged Binghamton women's soccer (1-10-1, 0-3 AE) 1-0 in an America East game Sunday afternoon from the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Late substitute Ashley Claud tapped in a rebound from the doorstep with 10:51 remaining, capping a Hartford offensive surge. Junior forward Tory Tripp spun on the left side of the box and sent a shot from 16 yards that was deflected by diving BU sophomore keeper Katie Hatziyianis. But the rebound sat for an unmarked Claud, who touched it in from three yards out.

Hartford sent 12 shots toward goal in the second half and held a 19-7 margin for the game.

Hazziyianis made 10 saves - the second time this season she's recorded double-digit stops.

The Bearcats' best chance came with just over 21 minutes left in the game when sophomore midfielder Hannah Shankman sent a nice ball down the right side to senior midfielder Katherine Corcoran, who beat her mark near the endline. Corcoran then drillled a sharp-angled shot that started to trickle through the legs of Hawks' keeper Jessica Jurg. the junior keeper recovered, however, to grab the ball before it crossed the line.

"We came out to be organized defensively and I thought we gave Hartford some trouble figuring out how to break down our numbers," head coach Sarah McClellan said. "Our team defending was quite good in the first half but due to fatigue, we had a couple of letdowns in a row in the second half that led to their goal. But I thought we did really well against a high-level team in the America East. We're getting better and not conceding the types of goals we were earlier in the season. The team is disappointed with the loss but we executed a pretty good game plan ... we were just a couple of plays short."

Binghamton is off for a week before traveling to Lowell to face UMass Lowell next Sunday.
