SCOUTING ALBANYAlbany (10-7-2) won its first-ever America East regular-season title with a 3-1 win at Binghamton last Wednesday. The Great Danes had a first-round bye in the tournament. Afonso Pinheiro, who was named the America East Striker of the Year, finished with a goal and an assist in the win over the Bearcats.
AE TOURNAMENT HISTORYBinghamton and Albany have met twice before in the America East semifinals. Both games were at Albany but both games were won by the Bearcats.
In 2004, Binghamton scored a pair of second-half goals to record a 3-1 victory. In 2008, Cameron Keith's goal in the second overtime period lifted the Bearcats to a 1-0 triumph.
WORTH NOTINGZach Galluzzo has scored a goal in each of the Bearcats' last two America East tournament games. He netted a goal against Hartford in the semifinals last year.
Binghamton's three first-team all-conference selections (Trappe, Galluzzo and junior goalkeeper
Robert Moewes) represent its highest total since 2007.
The Bearcats are 4-1-2 in seven previous trips to the America East semifinals. Last season, Binghamton dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at Hartford. Its last win came in the 2008 victory at Albany.
