Men's Lacrosse Pushes Back Season Opener to Sunday at 1 pm

VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team has moved back its season opener to Sunday, February 22. The Bearcats host Marist to begin the 2015 campaign on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Freezing temperatures in the area forced the teams to push back this weekend's contest, which was originally scheduled to be played Saturday.

The Bearcats were scheduled to face Sacred Heart last weekend, but the contest was postponed due to inclement weather. No make-up date has been announced.

BU went 7-8 last season, including a 4-1 mark in America East play. It advanced to the America East Tournament for the first time since 2011. Senior Tucker Nelson returns after posting 42 points, including a single-season school record 28 assists, in 2014.

Marist is 1-0 this year, having won, 7-6, at Air Force February 14. Mike Begley recorded a hat trick and Dave Scarcello made 14 saves in net. The Red Foxes had a 6-9 record last year, advancing to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship.

Coach Scott Nelson starts his fourth season at the helm of the Bearcat program. He has gone 16-26 in his first three years at BU. Keegan Wilkinson is in his fourth season as Marist's head man.

Binghamton leads the all-time series, 5-0. It won, 9-5, at Marist in the 2011 campaign.
