MacKay becomes the sixth Binghamton men’s lacrosse player to sign with a professional team

VESTAL, N.Y. – A former member of the Binghamton men's lacrosse program has signed with a National Lacrosse League team.

On Monday, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs announced the signing of Eoin MacKay. Mackay joins the professional box lacrosse team after competing as a short-stick defensive midfielder for the Bearcats for four seasons from 2023-26. Before arriving at Binghamton, MacKay played box lacrosse in high school while growing up in Bradford, Ontario.

"We are excited for the opportunity Eoin has in front of him," said Binghamton Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Kevin McKeown. "He has certainly played a ton of indoor lacrosse, and we are looking forward to following his professional career!"

During his time at Binghamton, MacKay saw his role with the Bearcats grow each season. After playing in a combined 11 games in each of his first two seasons at Binghamton, MacKay appeared in 12 games in each of his final two seasons. His final season in 2026 was his most productive. While serving as a team captain, MacKay collected a career-high 13 ground balls, caused two turnovers and scored his lone collegiate goal. MacKay ultimately finished his collegiate career with 23 ground balls and six caused turnovers, before graduating in May with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

MacKay becomes the sixth Binghamton men's lacrosse player to sign with a professional team. McKeown was the first when he spent two seasons with the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) from 2007-08. Steve Carlson was then a member of the Rattlers in 2011. In 2015, Tucker Nelson served as a member of the Ohio Machine. After that, Tom Moore was chosen with the 47th pick in the 2017 MLL Draft by the Atlanta Blaze. Moore ultimately spent two seasons in Major League Lacrosse, playing for the Blaze in 2017 and both the Florida Launch and Boston Cannons in 2018. Binghamton's most recent professional player is Kevin Winkoff. Winkoff spent the 2024 season playing for both the Utah Archers and the Maryland Whipsnakes of the Premier Lacrosse League.

MacKay also continues his family's legacy in professional lacrosse. His older brother, Ian MacKay, has had a decorated career. After being chosen with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Bandits, Ian won three-straight NLL Cup championships from 2023-25, being named the finals' Most Valuable Player in 2025. He was named a Second Team All-League selection in 2024 and an All-Rookie Team selection in 2019. Ian has also played in both the Premier Lacrosse League and Major League Lacrosse. Ian competed in the PLL from 2019-24, winning the 2021 PLL championship with the Carolina Chaos. In 2018, Ian played in five games with the MLL's Chesapeake Bayhawks. Additionally, Ian won the gold medal in the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships and finished second in the 2018 World Lacrosse Championship while playing for Team Canada.

Eoin MacKay's uncle, Jim Moss, also played seven seasons in the NLL from 2001-07. He won the gold medal with Team Canada at the inaugural World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in 2003. Moss has also won the Mann Cup, which is given to the senior men's box lacrosse champions of Canada, while playing for the Brampton Excelsiors.

Eoin MacKay joins a Desert Dogs team that went 8-10 in the 2025-26 season. Las Vegas' first game of its 2026-27 season is on Saturday, Dec. 5, when it hosts the Colorado Mammoth.
