FOREST CITY, N.C. - Binghamton baseball (1-4) committed six errors and and managed just 10 combined hits in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Radford (4-4) Saturday afternoon at McNair Field. The Highlanders won 7-1 and 16-4. The games, originally slated for Radford, Va., were moved further south to Forest City, N.C. The teams will finish out the three-game series with a single game at noon on Sunday.Â
In Game 1, Radford struck for two runs in the second inning and three more in the third to take command. That was more than enough for RU's ace Michael Boyle, who struck out 10 Bearcats and only allowed four hits.Â
Senior center fielder
Zach Blanden went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the eighth inning to get BU on the board. Senior
Anthony Grillini pitched four solid middle innings of relief, allowing three hits and no earned runs. The normally steady-fielding Bearcats hurt their cause with four errors.
In Game 2, the Highlanders hit their way through four BU pitchers and scored five runs in each of the first, sixth and eighth innings to run away. Down 6-0, BU plated three runs in the third inning to cut their deficit in half. Blanden delivered an RBI and senior right fielder
Jake Thomas and junior third baseman
David Schanz each had an RBI double. But the Bearcats were limited to six hits and Radford kept up its offensive onslaught.
Schanz went 1-for-3 with two RBI and senior first baseman
Brian Ruby went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.Â
Junior
Rob Hardy (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the hill in Sunday's finale after pitching five brilliant innings against Auburn in his BU debut two weeks ago.
