Men's Lacrosse Heads to UMBC to Open America East Schedule Saturday

VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team opens America East action with a game at UMBC on Saturday, March 14. The match is set for a noon start at UMBC Stadium.
 
Binghamton is coming off an 11-7 win at Delaware last weekend. Tucker Nelson recorded a goal and six assists, tying the program record for assists in one game. The senior also set a new career high for points in a single contest. Nelson has scored at least a point in all 31 games of his BU career. Tanner Cosens, making his first start of the year, tallied 13 saves in goal. Senior Paul O'Donnell scored five goals, matching a career high.
 
UMBC is 2-3 this season. It dropped an 11-7 decision to Towson on March 7. Max Maxwell and Jack Gannon each scored twice, while Pat Young put up a goal and three assists in the defeat.
 
The Bearcats rank second nationally in turnovers per game, committing just 10.75 giveaways per contest. They stand 11th in clearing percentage at 89.3 percent through four games. Nelson is sixth in assists per game with 2.75 this year.
 
The Retrievers allow 8.8 goals per match, good for 18th nationally. They also caused 7.2 turnovers per game, ranking 27th in the country.
 
Nelson paces the BU attack with six goals and 11 assists. O'Donnell has scored eight goals, while Sean Gilroy and J.T. Hauck have each added six this season. George Deignan leads the team with 13 groundballs and five caused turnovers.
 
For UMBC, Nate Lewnes leads the way with nine goals. Young is next with seven goals and five helpers. Zach Esser has a team-high 14 groundballs and nine caused turnovers.
 
The teams split two meetings last season, with Binghamton taking a 13-7 win on April 6 and UMBC winning, 16-10, in the America East Tournament on May 1.
