VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team hosts Hartford in the America East home opener on Saturday, March 28. The match is set for a 1 p.m. faceoff at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Binghamton is 1-0 in the America East, having won at UMBC, 13-4, earlier this month. BU dropped a 9-5 decision at Drexel on March 24. Redshirt freshman
Sean Gilroy scored two goals and
Tanner Cosens matched a career high with 13 saves in net.
Zach Scaduto and
Paul O'Donnell both tallied a goal and an assist in the game.
Hartford has a 3-4 overall record and a 1-1 mark in AE play. It fell, 24-6, at #13 Albany last weekend. Justin Huggins scored two goals in the defeat.
Tucker Nelson is Binghamton's top scorer through seven games, having totaled eight goals and 15 assists.
Paul O'Donnell, another senior, has 12 goals, tied with Gilroy for the team lead.
George Deignan paces the squad with 19 groundballs and six caused turnovers. Cosens is giving up just 8.37 goals per game, fewest in the America East.
Kevin O'Shea leads the Hawks' offense with 12 goals and eight assists. Matt Carroll has added nine goals, while Dylan Protesto has won 61.8 percent of his faceoffs in seven outings. Ryan Vanderford has started all seven matches in goal, posting a .483 save percentage for Hartford.
The Bearcats lead the all-time series, 9-4, including an 11-10 win at Hartford last year. Nelson recorded two goals and three assists in the victory. The teams have met in all but one season of BU's history, dating back to its inaugural 2002 campaign.
