VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team hosts Vermont on Saturday, April 25, at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Faceoff for the America East regular season finale is slated for 1 p.m.
Both teams are alive for an America East Tournament berth. The Bearcats can clinch a spot with a win AND a Hartford win against Stony Brook on Friday night or a win by two or more goals AND a Hartford loss. Vermont qualifies with a win OR a Hartford loss.
Binghamton is looking for its second straight America East Tournament appearance, while Vermont is trying for its first postseason spot since the 2010 campaign.
BU is 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference. It fell, 14-13 in overtime, at #20/16 Stony Brook on April 19. Binghamton led, 10-4, in the third quarter before eventually dropping the OT match.
Tucker Nelson led with two goals and four assists.
Tyler Deluca recorded a hat trick, while
Paul O'Donnell and
Sean Gilroy each scored two goals.
The Catamounts (5-9, 3-2 AE) are coming off a 14-11 win over Hartford on April 18. Ian MacKay posted two goals and three assists and James Barlow scored three goals and added a helper.
Sophomore
Tanner Cosens is having a stellar year in net, having registered a 9.71 goals against average (leading the conference) and a .494 save percentage in nine starts. Nelson has a team-high 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists). His 2.33 assists per game ranks ninth nationally. O'Donnell leads the Bearcats with 23 goals, as seven different BU players have scored 10 or more goals.
George Deignan paces the team with 44 groundballs and 11 caused turnovers this season.
Cam Milligan leads the UVM attack with 59 points (26 goals, 33 assists). MacKay and Barlow have each scored 32 goals. Luc LeBlanc has won 54 percent of his faceoffs, collecting 84 groundballs. Jon Kaplan and Justin Rosenberg have split in goal, combining to post a .490 save percentage in 2015.
BU ranks 13
th nationally in clearing percentage (88.3 percent) and 15
th in shot percentage (31.1 percent) this year. In Division I, Vermont stands sixth in saves per game (13.57) and seventh in groundballs per game (35.21).
Last season, Binghamton won, 9-6, at Vermont. O'Donnell scored twice and Deluca added a goal and an assist in the contest.
The six Bearcats seniors will be honored before the contest. Nelson, O'Donnell,
