Men's Lacrosse Makes Inaugural Trip to UMass Lowell Saturday

VESTAL, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team travels to UMass Lowell for the first time on Saturday, April 4. The America East match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at Cushing Field.

UMass Lowell is in its first season as an NCAA Division I program. The River Hawks joined the America East prior to the 2014-15 school year. Coach Ed Stephenson was the first coach in Binghamton men's lacrosse history, guiding the Bearcats from 2002-2010.

Binghamton (2-6, 1-1 AE) is coming off a tight 13-12 loss to Hartford on March 28. BU trailed, 12-7, through three quarters, but fought back with five fourth-quarter goals to push the Hawks. Senior J.T. Hauck scored a career-high five goals, including three in the fourth frame. He is the first Bearcat to score three goals in a fourth quarter since Matt Springer did it on April 15, 2013, at Canisius. Hauck is just the third different BU player to post three goals in any single period since the start of the 2013 campaign.

Paul O'Donnell recorded a goal and three assists, while Tanner Cosens made eight saves in net. Freshman Ben Kocis added two goals and Sean Gilroy put up a goal and an assist.

UMass Lowell (1-8, 0-3 AE) lost, 25-0, at #9 Albany on March 28. Alex Desmarais made 10 saves and Cory Highfield collected five groundballs in the contest.

Tucker Nelson, a senior, leads Binghamton with 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists). O'Donnell and Gilroy have each scored 13 goals and Hauck has registered 12 in eight outings. George Deignan has a team-high seven caused turnovers and has added 24 groundballs. Cosens has a 9.22 goals against average, best in the America East. As a team, the Bearcats sixth nationally in clearing percentage (90.6 percent) and ninth in turnovers per game (12.13) this year.

Jon Phillips paces the River Hawks' attack with nine goals and six assists. Sean Tyrrell has scored 11 goals and Bain Schroeder has caused 14 turnovers.
