ITHACA, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball snapped a 2-2 deadlock with five runs in the eighth inning and the visiting Bearcats (7-12) went on to a 7-3 win over Cornell (8-17) Tuesday afternoon from Hoy Field. It was BU's third straight win in a busy seven-games-in-seven-days stretch. 

Playing the team's third game in two days at Cornell's home field, BU batted around in the decisive eighth inning, scoring five runs on six hits. Freshman DH CJ Krowiak led off the frame with a bunt single and was sacrificed to second by senior center fielder Zach Blanden. Junior third baseman David Schanz plated Krowiak with a double down the left field line - the first of four straight Bearcats to reach base. Senior right fielder Jake Thomas followed with an RBI double through the left side and junior second baseman Reed Gamache added a run-scoring single to give BU a 5-2 lead. Three batters later, freshman left fielder Chris McGee delivered an RBI single and BU's final run scored on an infield throwing error.

Four Binghamton pitchers held the Big Red to just one earned run. Junior reliever Mike Urbanski (W, 1-0) got the win after tossing two shutout innings (6th-7th). Before that, freshman Nick Wegmann struck out two in two hitless innings. Redshirt freshman starter Jake Wloczewski scattered four hits in 3.0 innings. He allowed two unearned runs in the third inning.

Cornell jumped ahead 2-0 with two runs in the third inning. A one-out throwing error opened the door and the Big Red bunched an RBI triple and RBI double to take the early lead.

Binghamton got on the board in the top of the fourth. Schanz singled to lead off and Thomas added a single. After a fly out, sophomore first baseman Brendan Skidmore ripped an RBI single. The Bearcats tied it one inning later. Freshman shortstop Paul Rufo led off with a walk and went to second on a botched pick-off. Two batters later, Blanden brought in Rufo with an RBI groundout.

The first five hitters in BU's lineup each had an RBI. Schanz and Thomas went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Rufo went 2-for-3.

The Bearcats head to Buffalo on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start against Canisius.
