STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Freshman outfielder Jessica Rutherford drilled a three-run double while junior outfielder Lisa Cadogan and freshman designated hitter Tia Smith each drove in a pair of runs, poweing Binghamton (22-19) to a 8-0 win over Maine (22-22) in an America East Tournament elimination game on Friday afternoon at University Field. With the victory, the Bearcats advance to the America East finals for the first time in program history.

Binghamton will face off against host Stony Brook at noon on Saturday. Because the Bearcats lost 16-3 in six innings to the Seawolves earlier in the day, they will need to win a pair of games to caputre the America East championship.

"I am really happy for our team," head coach Michelle Burrell said. "We had a tough first game against Stony Brook but we came right out in the game against Maine and kept hitting the whole game."

Cadogan, Rutherford and junior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh each hit a solo home run in the game against the Seawolves. Stony Brook, however, smacked four home runs of its own and scored 12 runs over the final two innings.

Allison Cukrov raised her record to 14-4 with the win while freshman pitcher Sarah Miller was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 8-7.

In the game against Maine, Cadogan opened the scoring in the top of the first inning by singling home Harbaugh. In the process, she became the first player in program history to record 50 RBI in a season.

One inning later, the Bearcats blew the game open with four more runs. Rutherford had the key hit with a three-run double and scored one batter later on a single by Cadogan.

Smith made it 6-0 with a RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. One batter later, freshman pinch runner Jill Bovitt scored on a throwing error. In the top of the sixth inning, Smith drew a bases-loaded walk, making it 8-0.

Miller tossed four shutout innings to record the win. Junior Cara Martin pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief. Erin Bogdanovich was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 1-7.

Cadogan finished the day 5-for-7 (.721) while Harbaugh scored three times.

NOTE: Maine eliminated Albany 10-7 to finish in third place.
