AMBLER, Pa. - Temple (5-2-1) scored twice in each half and defeated Binghamton women's soccer (1-5-1) 4-1 Sunday afternoon from Ambler Soccer Field.Â
The Owls opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a turnover on the endline resulted in an easy finish to the left. The hosts added another goal on a misplayed 60-yard free kick in the 32nd minute to build a 2-0 halftime cushion.
Binghamton got on the board in the 61st minute when freshman forward
Julianne Johnston followed up her own shot and knocked in the rebound to make it 2-1. But less than three minutes later, Temple got the goal back and then the Owls added a penalty kick goal in the 76th minute. Â
"I'm really proud of our fantastic second half," head coach
Sarah McClellan said. "W
e saw a lot of possession and play. Temple capitalized on a few plays, however."
Temple held a 21-10 shots margin, though BU registered eight of those shots in the second half.
Sophomore keeper
Katie Hatziyianis made five saves before giving way to classmate
Haley Downin, who made one stop in her nine minutes.Â
Binghamton next plays at Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday.Â
