Volleyball Falls at UMBC Sunday Afternoon

BALTIMORE, Md.- Binghamton volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision at UMBC Sunday afternoon at the RAC Arena. Sarah Ngo recorded 24 assists and 8 digs in the America East match.

The Retrievers won the contest by scores of 25-16, 25-20, and 25-16. In the opener, UMBC grabbed an early lead. Kristella Morina scored and then Lauren Kornmann and Bianca Anderson teamed up for a block to pull within 20-14. The hosts came away with a nine-point margin to claim a 1-0 advantage.

Binghamton was stronger in the second frame, as Ngo found Kornmann for a pair of early kills. Points by Morina and Gaby Alicea made it 6-3. Lexi LaGoy served an ace for an 11-9 edge, but the Retrievers answered, taking the lead midway through the set. LaGoy and Kaelan Haag combined for a block and Alicea tallied an ace to get the Bearcats to within 21-20. The home side followed with four straight points to close out the game, though.

In the third game, LaGoy put up a kill and then a block to make it 13-10 UMBC. Erin Shultz scored two points later in the frame, but it wasn't enough, as the Retrievers won, 25-16, and took the match.

Ngo finished with 24 assists and 8 digs. Kornmann led with 8.5 points, while Alicea contributed 7.5 in the bout. Bailey Walker notched 11 digs.
