Men's basketball faces ranked VCU on Friday

BU braces for matchup against national-caliber Rams; tip is 7 p.m. in Richmond

VESTAL, N.Y. - Fresh off a second straight home win, Binghamton men's basketball (2-1) braces for a tough test Friday night on the road at unbeaten VCU (2-0). The Rams, who have won 24 or more games 10 straight seasons, are "receiving votes" in the latest USA Today Coaches Poll. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at VCU's Siegel Center, where the Rams have sold out 84 straight games are are 72-12 in that span.

The Bearcats are coming off a riveting 72-70 win over Central Connecticut State on Wednesday. Riding the torrid scoring touch of redshirt sophomore guard J.C. Show, BU overcame a five-point halftime deficit to win for the second time in two tries at home this season. Show tied three school records and earned a spot on ESPN's SportsCenter with his barrage of three-pointers. He scored 34 points on 12-of-16 shooting and tied the top marks for points, field goals and three-pointers (8) in a game. Junior forward Bobby Ahearn added a career-high 19 points on 8-of-11 accuracy. Ahearn, who grabbed five boards and drew two charges, also drained his first two collegiate three-pointers. Binghamton shot 60 percent in the second half.

Binghamton is beginning a stretch of five straight games away from home  four of which will come during a seven-day trip to Florida during Thanksgiving week.

VCU returns three starters and eight lettermen from a 25-11 squad that won the Atlantic 10 title and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament a year ago. The squad is led by six seniors and two juniors. They were picked to finish third (out of 14) in the A-10 Preseason Poll. The Rams opened with an 80-65 home win over UNC Asheville and followed with a 64-59 road win at Liberty on Tuesday. Junior forward Justin Tillman leads the team in scoring (14.0 ppg.) and rebounding (6.0 rpg.). VCU is shooting 52 percent as a team and is outrebounding opponents by nearly 10 boards per game.

The Bearcats are 3-13 all-time vs. teams from the Atlantic 10. The wins came against George Washington (2007-08), St. Bonaventure (2007-08) and La Salle (2009-10).
