Men's basketball loses at FIU 74-57

Show nets 22 points, Ahearn adds 13 as BU finishes Florida trip 2-2

MIAMI, Fla. - Host Florida International used an early 15-2 run to take control and the Conference USA member Panthers (3-4) shot 54 percent en route to a 74-57 win over Binghamton (4-4) Sunday night at FIU Arena. Playing their fourth game in six days, the Bearcats fell behind by 11 points at the half and couldn't muster a comeback.

"You have to give FIU credit ... they played great ... they forced their will on us with size and athleticism," head coach Tommy Dempsey said. "In order to win we had to play harder and I didn't feel like we did. They got in a nice groove and extended their lead. We continued to battle but they were the better team. It was a good trip overall though. I wish we had played better tonight but it was more about how well FIU played. They needed to win on their home floor and we weren't able to keep up tonight."

Redshirt sophomore guard J.C. Show scored a team-high 22 points - the fourth time this season he has eclipsed the 20-point mark. Junior forward Bobby Ahearn tallied 13 points with six rebounds and sophomore center Thomas Bruce chipped in eight points. Show hit 4-of-9 three-pointers and made 8-of-14 shots.

Binghamton led 8-4 3:40 into the contest before FIU rattled off a 15-2 run to take a 19-10 lead halfway through the period. Show drained a three-pointer that pulled BU to within seven but a subsequent 8-0 Panthers' run expanded their lead to 30-15 with 6:28 left. The Bearcats trailed 36-25 at half and never got the game back to single digits despite shooting 52 percent in the second half.

FIU enjoyed a 35-20 margin on the glass.

The Bearcats have alternated wins and losses in their first eight games of 2016-17. Binghamton hosts Mansfield at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
