HAMILTON, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team lost, 11-4, at Colgate Saturday afternoon.
Zach Scaduto,
Tyler Deluca,
Ben Kocis, and
Sean Gilroy each scored for the Bearcats in the 2016 opener at Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium.
The hosts jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period before BU rallied. Kocis assisted on Scaduto's goal with 13:37 left in the first half. Deluca followed with a goal to pull the Bearcats within 3-2 at the 9:38 mark. After the Raiders scored, Kocis answered with an unassisted goal at the 3:53 mark. Colgate came back with a pair of late goals to secure a 6-3 halftime lead.
Binghamton struck first in the second half, with Gilroy finding the back of the net at the 11:21 mark of the third quarter, making it a 6-4 gap. Kocis assisted on the goal. The home team responded with five straight goals to close scoring in the contest.
Kocis finished with a goal and two assists.
Dan Mazurek won 12-19 faceoffs and
Tanner Cosens made nine saves in net for BU.
Eric Schweitzer and
T.J. DiSanto each collected four groundballs. The Bearcats went 14-16 on clears for the day. Sam Cleveland put up three goals and three assists for the Raiders.
BU dropped to 0-1, while Colgate moved to 1-1 in 2016. Binghamton returns to action next Saturday, with a game at Marist. Faceoff is slated for 2 p.m.
