Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.- The Binghamton men's lacrosse team fell, 10-8, at Marist Saturday afternoon.
Zach Scaduto,
Thomas McAndrew, and
Ben Kocis each scored two goals in the non-conference match at Tenney Stadium.
The Bearcats put together a solid effort, attempting 42 shots and winning 15-21 faceoffs. BU was unable to overcome an early deficit, however, as Marist led throughout the game.
Marist started quickly, scoring the game's first two goals. Scaduto answered for the Bearcats. With 6:26 to play in the first quarter, Scaduto found the back of the net to put Binghamton on the board.
Dan Mazurek won the ensuing faceoff and then
Matthew Kaser hit Scaduto for a man-up goal just 22 seconds after the first score. The hosts responded with three straight goals to close the first period.
In the second frame, neither team could score early. At the 8:45 mark, McAndrew finished a Kocis feed to cut BU's deficit to 5-3. A little over two minutes later, McAndrew scored again, making it 5-4 with 6:16 remaining in the half. Marist scored late and headed into the locker room with a 6-4 advantage at halftime.
Marist scored the first two goals of the third quarter, grabbing an 8-4 margin. With 5:15 to go,
Sean Gilroy scored to inch the Bearcats closer. To start the fourth period, Kocis then became the third BU player to score consecutive goals on the day. Scaduto set him up for a man-up score 24 seconds into the fourth. With 11:10 left, Kocis scored again, getting Binghamton within one at 8-7. The home team came back with a pair of goal to regain control, though.
Stephen Petrelli capped the game's scoring, tallying a goal with 34 seconds to go. Scaduto claimed the assist.
Binghamton outshot Marist, 42-33. BU was successful on 12-15 clearing tries in the contest.
Tanner Cosens posted 12 saves in net.
Austin Macchi won 12-14 faceoffs on the day. Scaduto finished with two goals and two helpers, while Kocis recorded his second straight three-point game to start the 2016 season. Joseph Radin led Marist with seven goals and Brian Corrigan totaled 18 saves in goal. Marist, a 2015 NCAA Tournament participant, improved to 1-1 this year.
Binghamton (0-2) heads to Hobart to wrap up its season-opening three-game road trip. The non-league contest is slated for a 2 p.m. start on Saturday, March 5.
