VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball heads down to North Carolina for its second weekend of action in the young 2016 season. The Bearcats (1-3) will play a three-game set against host UNC-Greensboro (3-1) at UNCG Baseball Stadium. Friday's series opener is set for 4 p.m. The teams will then play single games on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
Binghamton took the series finale at Houston Baptist on Saturday to notch its first win of the season. Junior left fielder
Darian Herncane provided the dramatics with a two-out grand slam in the ninth inning and BU retired HBU in the bottom of the ninth to preserve an 11-9 win.

Pat Britt hit a team-high .545 (6-for-11) in the series. Sophomore center fielder
CJ Krowiak had a team-best seven hits (.368) and senior second baseman
Reed Gamache hit .313 with four RBI. Herncane drove in five runs in the four games. A pair of Nicks have been the most effective BU pitchers early on. Sophomore
Nick Wegmann went 3.2 innings of relief at Houston Baptist without giving up an earned run. Junior
Nicholas Liegi pitched 2.2 innings of one-hit ball.
Senior No. 1
Mike Bunal takes the hill Friday for his second start of the season. Bunal (0-1, 13.50) will face a UNCG lineup that has scored nearly nine runs a game and is hitting .346.
The Spartans took two of three in their season-opening series against High Point before beating Elon, 7-3, on Tuesday. UNCG returns 12 letterwinners, including 11 pitchers, from a 23-27 squad that placed fourth in the Southern Conference last spring. Taking the hill Friday will be junior righty Hunter Smith (0-0, 1.93 ERA). Â
