NEWARK, N.J.- The Binghamton women's tennis team fell, 4-3, at Rutgers Friday afternoon.
Annie DiMuro,
Shea Brodsky, and
Olga Ostrovetsky each won singles matches in the non-conference contest played at the East Brunswick Racquet Club.
In doubles play, Ostrovetsky and
Agatha Ambrozy combined for a 6-3 win. The Scarlet Knights claimed wins in the other two doubles matchups, earning the team point.
At #4 singles, Brodsky and Mariam Zein squared off in a tense match. Zein took the first set, 7-6 (7-3), but Brodsky fought back. The senior won the following set, 6-3, to even the bout. The competitors then went back and forth in the third set, with Brodsky finally pulling out an 11-9 victory.
DiMuro defeated Chloe Lee, 6-4 and 6-0, in their #2 match. Ostrovetsky picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Lindsey Kayati in their #5 contest. Rutgers came away with just enough wins in the other singles bouts to collect the team win.
Binghamton returns to action on Sunday. It will face Siena at noon in Loudonville, New York.
