VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball returns to the road for a fourth straight weekend when the Bearcats (2-8) play at Delaware (7-4) in a four-game series this weekend. The teams begin with a single game Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium.Â
Binghamton grabbed one win last weekend at VMI. Junior first baseman
Brendan Skidmore hit .417 and belted a pair of home runs to garner America East Player of the Week honors. Sophomore center fielder
CJ Krowiak had a team-high six hits in the three-game series. Krowiak leads BU in hitting (.372) and runs (11) thus far. Sophomore shortstop
Paul Rufo batted .444 with two home runs in the VMI series. He raised his season batting average to .346. Senior second baseman
Reed Gamache leads the team with six extra-base hits and 11 RBI.
The Bearcats will juggle their starting rotation for the Delaware series, with senior right-hander
Rob Hardy (0-1, 6.91 ERA) taking the ball for Friday's opener. Junior righty
Jake Cryts (0-1, 6.28 ERA) and senior right-hander
Mike Bunal (0-2) will pitch Games 2 and 3, respectively on Saturday. Sophomore
Jacob Wloczewski will make his season debut in Sunday's finale.
Delaware is coming off a 10-8 win over ACC foe Maryland on Tuesday. The Blue Hens split two games with fellow America East member UMass Lowell last weekend but have also beaten Virginia Tech, Stetson and Maryland (2x).
The Blue Hens' pitching staff carries a 4.98 ERA and the offense is paced by junior outfielder Jordan Glover, who is batting .390 with 12 RBI in 11 games.
This is the first meeting between BU and former America East power Delaware. The Hens won 26 games in the CAA last year, including three straight victories in the postseason tournament. Delaware (five straight from 1994-98) and Binghamton (four straight from 2007-10) hold the America East top two marks for most consecutive regular season titles and Delaware's departure from the America East in 2001 opened the door for the Bearcats to become a member.
