Men's Lacrosse Falls at #6 Albany, 12-8, Saturday Night

ALBANY, N.Y.- Binghamton men's lacrosse fell, 12-8, at #6 Albany Saturday night. Zach Scaduto led BU with three goals in the America East contest at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.

The hosts went ahead, 3-0, early, but the Bearcats responded. With Albany up by three after nine minutes, Scaduto got BU on the board. He made his own move and scored from the right side with 5:52 left in the opening quarter. Johnny Maher then beat his defender behind the net and scored on the right with 3:45 to go in the first. With 1:43 remaining, Thomas McAndrew finished a Liam Reaume dish to tie the match at 3.

In the second quarter, the Great Danes scored twice in the early going. Again, Binghamton answered. Maher assisted on a Mitchell Rick goal with 12:08 left in the half. Garret Waldron forced an Albany turnover that led to a lengthy BU possession. The trip ended in success, as Scaduto found the back of the net off a Maher pass to even the score at 5 with 9:22 to play in the second frame. Later in the quarter, Albany scored, but Maher came back with another tying goal at the 1:58 mark. The hosts followed with a pair of goals to head into halftime with an 8-6 advantage.

Tanner Cosens took over in net for the Bearcats in the third period. The junior was tremendous in the frame, tallying seven saves, including several at point-blank range. The stops allowed BU to stay in the contest, as each team scored once in the 15 minutes. The Danes scored 48 seconds in, and then Ben Kocis notched a goal of his own at the 13:11 mark, making it 9-7. The defenses controlled from there, sending the game into the final quarter undecided.

After an Albany goal to start the fourth, Scaduto scored his third goal of the night, marking his fifth hat trick of the season. The home team added two more goals, though, securing the America East decision.

Maher posted two goals and two assists. Scaduto scored three times, while Rick, McAndrew, and Kocis each scored once. Cosens finished with nine second-half saves. BU went 16-19 on clearing attempts in the game. Seth Oakes recorded a hat trick for the Great Danes, who moved to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

BU (4-7, 2-2 AE) heads to #11 Syracuse on Wednesday, April 20. The non-league match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. faceoff at the Carrier Dome.
