SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Binghamton men's lacrosse dropped a 13-5 decision at #8 Syracuse Wednesday night.
Sean Gilroy scored twice and
Tanner Cosens made 14 saves in the non-conference match at the Carrier Dome.
The Orange jumped out to a 9-0 halftime lead, but the Bearcats continued to battle in the second half, outscoring Syracuse, 5-4, to create the final margin.
After Cuse scored top start the second half,
Matthew Kaser capped a long BU possession with a goal, assisted by Gilroy. At the 3:39 mark,
Liam Reaume assisted on a Gilroy goal. The hosts scored late in the period to regain control, though.
In the fourth quarter, Binghamton put together a strong stretch, scoring three straight goals.
Thomas McAndrew found the back of the net off a Reaume dish and then
Zach Scaduto set up a
Mitchell Rick tally less than a minute later. With 1:38 left, Binghamton earned a three-man-up opportunity. Gilroy quickly scored, closing out the goals with 1:20 remaining.
Cosens made his share of plays in the first half, totaling nine saves in the first two quarters. The junior made four saves in the first and then posted five more stops in the second frame, including several from point-blank range.
Gilroy finished with a pair of goals and an assist, while Reaume dished out two assists. Kaser, McAndrew, and Rick each scored a goal. Cosens,
Jake Nelson, and
George Deignan each captured three groundballs. Nick Mariano led the Orange with four goals and an assist.
Binghamton dropped to 4-8 in 2016. It hosts #14 Stony Brook on senior day Sunday, April 24. The America East game is set for a 1 p.m. faceoff at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Syracuse moved to 8-4 this year.
