Softball Hosts Stony Brook in AE Weekend Series

Bearcats and Seawolves play noon DH on Saturday, single game at noon on Sunday

Binghamton is home for just the third time this season. The Bearcats host Stony Brook on Saturday for a noon double header and on Sunday for a single game – also at noon.

On Saturday, both teams will take part in Go4theGoal's Lace Up for Pediatric Cancer campaign. In addition, the Bearcats will honor their Friends of Jacelyn adoptee Kimmy Salotti, who will throw out the first pitch.

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (23-12) swept a non-conference home doubleheader against Cornell on Thursday, winning 10-0 and 6-5. Senior designated player Griffin McIver went 5-for-7 (.714), homered and drove in five runs. Sophomore outfielder Jessica Rutherford and senior first baseman Taylor Chaffee each finished the afternoon with three RBI while junior outfielder Gabby Bracchi and senior outfielder Sydney Harbaugh each scored four times.

- The Bearcats continue to be the top hitting team in the America East with a .336 overall batting average. Rutherford leads the squad and ranks second in the America East with a .417 batting average. She is also tied for second with 33 RBI. Chaffee is hitting .402 while Harbaugh is hitting .376 with five home runs and 28 RBI. McIver leads Binghamton with eight home runs.

- Sophomore pitcher Sarah Miller is 12-6 and ranks second in the America East with a 2.81 ERA. Her victory total also ranks second in the conference. Senior pitcher Cara Martin, meanwhile, is 6-3 and ranks fifth in the America East with a 2.97 ERA. Martin also has a pair of saves.

- Stony Brook (21-18-2, 9-2 AE) lost 6-4 to LIU Brooklyn on Thursday. Jane Sallen is 14-10 with a 2.91 ERA. She ranks first in the conference in victories and is third in ERA. Sallen is also second in the conference with 94 strikeouts. As a staff, the Seawolves lead the America East with a 3.25 ERA.

- Offensively, Alexandria Pisciotta is fifth in the America East in batting (.383) while Diane Caruso leads the Seawolves with seven home runs and 29 RBI. Pisciotta also leads the America East with 50 hits.

- The Bearcats and Seawolves meet for the first time since last year's America East finals. Binghamton swept Stony Brook 5-2 and 9-3 to clinch its first-ever conference championship. Miller was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after getting both wins against the Seawolves. Harbaugh, meanwhile, belted a key three-run home run in the final game.

- Stony Brook has won the past two America East regular-season titles and last won the conference tournament in 2013. Binghamton, meanwhile, has finished in the top three during the regular season in each of the past three years.

- On Saturday, Binghamton and Stony Brook will be participating in Go4theGoal's Lace up for Pediatric Cancer campaign to raise funds and awareness for kids with cancer being treated locally. The funds raised through this campaign will help continue the mission to make a difference in the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research and granting personal wishes.

- Also on Saturday, the Binghamton softball program will recognize Friends of Jaclyn adoptee, Kimmy Salotti. She became a part of the Binghamton softball family six years ago and was in the thick of her chemo treatments while fighting brain cancer. She has been cancer-free for the last two and a half years. The Friends of Jaclyn's mission is to improve the quality of life for children and their families battling pediatric brain tumors and other childhood cancers while spreading awareness.
