CHARLESTON, S.C.- Binghamton volleyball began the 2016 season Friday, falling to Tennessee Martin, 3-1. BU fell by scores of 25-22, 25-22, 21-25, and 25-18 as 
Sarah Ngo recorded 37 assists and 
Bailey Walker posted 20 digs at the College of Charleston Invitational.
 
The teams played a tight match, with the Skyhawks pulling out close wins in each of the first two games. Binghamton got rolling in the third, earning a 25-21 victory to force a fourth set. Freshman 
Lauren Kornmann put the Bearcats on the board with an ace, one of five for the rookie on the day. Later in the frame, BU trailed, 21-17, before going on a set-deciding spurt. A trio of Martin errors opened the door and then Kornmann served two aces and then Ngo set up 
Kristella Morina for a kill and a four-point win. UT-Martin finished the contest with a 25-18 decision in the fourth, however.
 
Ngo tallied 37 assists and eight digs. Kornmann led with 13 points, notching eight kills and five aces. Morina added 10.5 points, including six total blocks. Walker contributed 20 digs.
 
Binghamton (0-1) plays twice on Saturday. It faces South Carolina at 2:30 p.m. and then takes on Charleston at 7 p.m.
