PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Binghamton volleyball won, 3-1, at Brown Friday night. The Bearcats won for the fourth time in five outings by scores of 25-22, 15-25, 25-17, and 25-13 on the first night of the Brown Invitational.

In the first game, the teams played to a 14-all draw before BU created separation. The Bearcats scored four straight points, as
Kristella Morina posted two kills and a block, while
Gaby Alicea added an ace.
Bailey Walker later set up
Erin Shultz for a kill and then
Sarah Ngo assisted on a
Bianca Anderson point to make it 24-22. On game point, Shultz served an ace, giving Binghamton a 1-0 lead in the contest.

The hosts bounced back in the second frame, claiming a 25-15 win to even the match at 1. The Bearcats came out looking much better in the third, as they built towards a pair of set wins to take the match. The teams traded points early, but Anderson and
Allison Hovie combined for a block and then Alicea scored, giving BU a 14-10 advantage. A pair of Brown attack errors sparked a 6-0 BU spurt as Alicea notched an ace and then Ngo found Morina for a kill and scored on her own. Morina scored again for a 20-12 margin. With a seven-point lead, Ngo found
Lauren Kornmann for a kill and then
Kim Lavender came on for an ace. A Kornmann kill pushed BU closer to a win and then Anderson scored to lift Binghamton to a 25-17 win and a 2-1 match lead. The Bearcats hit .355 as a team in the set.

In the fourth frame, Brown struggled, committing 10 errors to allow the Bearcats to play with a lead. Alicea served two aces to ignite the BU attack and then Hovie and Morina teamed up for a block and a 12-5 advantage. Morina put down a block of her own and then Anderson and Ngo combined for another, with Anderson and Kornmann tallying a stuff to take a 15-6 lead. Hovie and Morina each scored late, and after a Brown serving error, Ngo hit Kornmann for a blast on match point, as the Bearcats won by 12.

Morina led with 17.5 points, hitting .611 and totaling six blocks. Kornmann put up 12.5 points and nine digs, while Ngo dished out 36 assists, adding three blocks and three kills. Walker logged 12 digs and Anderson collected seven blocks. Alicea produced four aces.

Binghamton (5-6) faces New Mexico State (10 a.m.) and Central Connecticut State (4:30 p.m.) tomorrow as competition at the Brown Invitational wraps up.
