Women's Basketball Opens AE Slate Against UMBC

Bearcats and Retrievers tip off Wednesday at 7 p.m.

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (5-8, 0-0 AE) lost 54-51 to Cornell on Sunday afternoon in its final non-conference game of the season. Junior guard Imani Watkins netted a team-best 13 points and blocked three shots. Sophomore forward Rebecca Carmody added 12 points and seven rebounds while Alyssa James grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds.

- Junior guard Imani Watkins leads the America East and ranks No. 21 in the nation with 19.9 points per game. She is also first in the conference and tied for No. 36 in the nation with 2.8 steals per game. Redshirt sophomore guard Jasmine Sina and Watkins rank first and second in the America East with 2.9 and 2.8 three-point field goals per game respectively. Junior forward Alyssa James ranks fifth in the conference with 6.3 rebounds per game.  

- UMBC (5-8 0-0 AE) beat Coppin State 73-63 on Saturday. Te'yJah Oliver scored a team-high 19 points in the victory. For the season, Tyler Moore leads UMBC with 11.2 points and 1.4 steals per game. 

- Binghamton leads the all-time series 18-11, having won two out of three meetings last season. Most recently, the Bearcats defeated UMBC 49-41 in the America East quarterfinals on March 5, 2016 at the Events Center. Imani Watkins had 15 points in that game while Rebecca Carmody grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds. Earlier in that season, Watkins poured in a career-high 30 points as Binghamton defeated the visiting Retrievers 70-56 on Feb. 24, 2016. 

- The Bearcats lead the America East and are tied for No. 31 in the nation with 8.2 three-point field goals per game. They made a season-high 12 three-point field goals at Ohio on Dec. 19. Binghamton ranks second in the America East with 64.2 points per game, which is on track to be its best average since the 2005-06 season (66.9 ppg.). The Bearcats also rank second in the conference in blocks (4.6 bpg.) and third in steals (9.5 spg.).  

- Junior guard Imani Watkins ranks No. 11 in program history with 1,162 points. In 10th place with 1,176 points is Viive Rebane (2008-12) while Laine Kurpniece (2004-08) is ninth with 1,188 career points. Watkins, who reached the 1,000-point mark against Sacred Heart on Nov. 23, has seven games this season with at least 20 points including a program-record six straight from Nov. 16-Dec. 6.
