Women's basketball ready for WNIT opening round against Mercyhurst

Bearcats making first appearance in the postseason tournament

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton women's basketball gets set to take on Mercyhurst in the opening round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

  • 15-16 record, 14-4 in NEC
  • No. 2 seed in NEC Tournament; fell to No. 3 LIU 84-62 in semifinals

SECOND POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT APPEARANCE
Binghamton earned their first appearance in the WNIT and just their second ever postseason tournament in program history. The Bearcats qualified for the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) back in 2018 after posting a 20-12 record (10-6 AE). Binghamton won the opening round against Youngstown State, 70-59 but fell in the quarterfinals to eventual champions Yale, 70-64.

LAST TIME OUT
Binghamton fell just short to No. 2 Maine, 60-56 in the America East Air Force Reserve Women's Basketball semifinal round. Bella Pucci scored a team-high 24 points on 5-for-9 shooting behind the three-point line.

THE COMEBACK CATS
Binghamton has proven no matter the score, they are never out of any game. The Bearcats have comeback and won seven games this year when trailing by double-digits at one point in the game. Their biggest deficit was 20-points (35-15) with 6:27 left to play in the third quarter against Bryant. Binghamton would go on to win 66-64 in OT.
