Volleyball Tops Lowell in Straight Sets

Bearcats beat Riverhawks to sweep the weekend series

LOWELL, MA. -  The Binghamton volleyball team (8-14, 5-4 AE) topped UMass Lowell (5-17, 0-9 AE) at Costello Athletic Facility on Saturday night. The Bearcats swept the Riverhawks in straight sets, 27-25, 25-22 and 26-24.

Both teams went point-for-point in the first set, until the Bearcats took a 20-19. Lowell then went on to score the next three points and take a 22-20 lead, but Binghamton did not back down. The Bearcats tied the score at 25 and scored the final two points on kills from Erin Shultz and Gaby Alicea to take the set 27-25.

It was a tight set again in the second - but the Bearcats were able to take a 22-19 late in the match and carry that momentum to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Bearcats got out to an 8-5 lead in the third set. The Riverhawks battled but their efforts were not enough to take down the Bearcats and Binghamton won the third set and the match 3-0.

Erin Shultz lead the Bearcats with 16 kills while Gaby Alicea added 14 for the Bearcats. Setter Sarah Ngo recorded 44 assists. As a team the Bearcats hit .216 and recorded 52 kills.

Binghamton is back in action next Friday when they host UMBC at the West Gym.
