Men's lacrosse pair honored on campus

All-Americans Moore, Waldron recognized for their 2017 seasons in special ceremony

VESTAL, N.Y. - Men's lacrosse All-Americans Tom Moore and Garrett Waldron were honored in a special ceremony to kick off Homecoming Weekend Friday morning in the Events Center. Surrounded by family, teammates, and special dignitaries, the pair were presented with their All-America certificates by head coach Kevin McKeown and were lauded by University President Harvey Stenger and Director of Athletics Patrick Elliott.

In addition to the plaques, the pair were given citations from Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and also received citations from State Assembleywoman Donna Lupardo and State Senator Fred Akshar.

Moore and Waldron led the 2017 Bearcats to their most successful season in program history. Picked to finish last in the America East preseason poll, BU instead won a school-record 11 games and advanced to the America East championship game for the first time in 13 years.

The pair became just the third and fourth team sport athletes to be named All-Americans in Binghamton's Division I history.

Moore set school records for goals (48) and points (73) in a season and was named both a USILA and Inside Lacrosse All-American. He ranked sixth in the country in goals per game (3.0) and was the University's Male Athlete of the Year. He also was a USILA Academic All-American.

Waldron was McKeown's lock-down defender and the clamp he put on opposing goal scorers was crucial to the team's success. He was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year and a USILA All-American. He led a BU defensive unit that finished the season ranked eighth in the country in scoring defense (8.19 goals against average) and fourth in man-down defense (.789).

The two join McKeown (2004) and other previous All-Americans from the sports of women's swimming (Yun Qu in 2002), men's soccer (Graham Munro in 2005), men's track & field (Rory Quiller in 2007-08, Erik van Ingen in 2011-12, Jesse Garn in 2015), women's track & field (Keishorea Armstrong in 2015) and wrestling (Josh Pattterson in 2009, Justin Lister in 2010, Donnie Vinson in 2012, Nick Gwiazdowski in 2012).
