VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Albany opened up the second half with an 11-2 run and eased past Binghamton (12-15, 3-9 America East) 66-54 Thursday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The Great Danes (16-11, 7-5) put four in double figures and were plus 12 on the glass.
The Bearcats led 20-15 with 6:06 left in the first half before the Danes closed the period with a 12-0 run to take a 27-20 lead into intermission.
Albany then opened the second period with three three-pointers in a 2:51 span and the 11-2 run stretched their lead to 38-22. Binghamton drew no closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Sophomore guard
Timmy Rose led BU with 12 points (all in second half) on 6-of-13 shooting. Rose added five rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes. Junior forward
Willie Rodriguez, junior guard
Yosef Yacob and sophomore guard
Everson Davis added seven points each.
Binghamton played the game without starting forward
Bobby Ahearn (11.6 ppg. in last 8 games), who is nursing a broken nose.
"We couldn't score enough points to be effective in the game ... credit to Albany's defense," head coach
Tommy Dempsey said. "Our guys for the most part executed our defensive game plan. But we've lost some rhythm offensively. Any mistake defensively is magnified when you are struggling to score."
The Bearcats remain at home and will host New Hampshire at 2 p.m. Sunday.
