Baseball hosts Cornell Wednesday night

Winners of seven in a row, BU welcomes Big Red for first-ever night game at 6:30 p.m.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Winners of seven in a row and 11 of their last 13 games, Binghamton baseball (20-7) welcomes Cornell (18-15) to the Complex on Wednesday for the first-ever night game on campus. First pitch will take place at 6:30 under the lights. The renovations, which also included FieldTurf, were made possible by an anonymous $2.2 million gift. To commemorate the historic night game, the athletics department is offering two free tickets to all BU faculty and staff. Tickets are available at the Events Center Box Office (noon-4 p.m.) or on game day at the Pollard Tennis Gazebo, one hour prior to game time.

Thanks to another win streak - the team's second 7+ game streak of the season - the Bearcats are now 13 games above the .500 mark. It's the team's best mid-season win percentage in 20 years. Currently, BU has the 14th-highest win percentage (among 299 teams) in the entire nation.

Binghamton is hitting .284 and has lowered its pitching ERA to 2.99 (11th in nation).

Freshman Ben Anderson (1-1, 5.40 ERA) gets the start — his second of the season.

The Big Red have dropped four of their last five after winning four straight. They sit in third place in the Lou Gehrig division behind Penn and Columbia. Cornell is hitting .289 and has a pitching ERA of 4.57.

Junior outfielder Dale Wickham leads the team with a .383 average. Senior first baseman Cole Rutherford has seven home runs and 32 RBI — both team-highs. Sophomore catcher Will Simoneit is hitting .306 with four home runs and 20 RBI. Senior right-hander Scott Soltis (1-1, 6.10 ERA) gets the start today.

The teams played two weeks ago on April 12 in Ithaca with the Big Red prevailing 6-4. In that game, Cornell scored four runs in their final two at-bats to rally past BU, 6-4 at Hoy Field. The Bearcats led 4-1 in the sixth inning before the Big Red staged a comeback. Meanwhile, seven Cornell pitchers limited BU to just six hits.

Cornell leads the all-time series 20-15. The teams have split the last 12 encounters.
