Men's Lacrosse Set To Play in America East Semifinals

Binghamton and UMBC face off at 4:30 Thursday

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's lacrose team (10-4, 4-2 AE) will get a chance for redemption against UMBC (6-7, 4-2 AE) in the first semifinal contest of the America East tournament. The game is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Albany's Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. Top seeded Albany takes on No. 4 Stony Brook following the game.

The Bearcats topped Stony Brook in overtime last Friday to claim the No. 3 seed in the tournament. Joe Licata netted a goal with 2:51 remaining in the first overtime to send Binghamton the conference tournament for the first time since 2014. Prior to the Stony Brook victory, the Bearcats fell to No. 1 Syracuse, 9-8, in the Carrier Dome in a closed matched contest. Senior attack Tom Moore has led the Bearcats offensively; he is currently ranked sixth in the nation in goals per game (3.07) and tenth in points per game (4.79). Classmate Tanner Cosens heads up a defensive unit that ranks fourth in the country in scoring defense (7.64 GAA). Cosens also sits fourth in all of division I with a 7.56 goals-against-average.

This is the Retrievers first tournament appearance since 2014 as well. UMBC concluded their regular season with 10-7 victory over Vermont at home last Saturday. UMBC's 4-2 AE record is the best since 2009. Max Maxwell leads the Retrievers with 18 goals and 21 assists on the season. He is also the only member of the team to score in all 13 games this season. Goal keeper Rouston Souder recently became the tenth player in school history to record 300 saves in his career.

This will be the 20th meeting of the two teams with UMBC currently leading the series 14-5. It will be the fifth time they have met in the America East tournament. The Retrievers edged the Bearcats, 7-6, on April 15 to halt Binghamton's nine-game win streak.

The winner of the contest will face off against the winner of Stony Brook and Albany at 12 p.m. on Saturday at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on University of Albany's campus.
