Volleyball Drops Two Matches Friday

Bearcats fall to UNLV and EWU at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nv. - The Binghamton volleyball team dropped two matches on Friday in the UNLV Invitational. The Bearcats fell to UNLV (3-0) and EWU (3-2) at Cox Pavillion.

In their first match of the day the Bearcats fell to host UNLV 25-16, 25-16 and 25-18.

In the first set the Bearcats got out to a 9-6 lead before UNLV took a 12-11 lead and maintained it the rest of the set. Sarah Ngo assisted on 10 points for the Bearcats in the first game.

The Rebels took the lead early in the second set and never looked back topping the Bearcats 25-16.

After Binghamton scored three straight points to kick off the third set, UNLV quickly answered scoring three consecutive points of their own. The set went back and forth until the Rebels were able to maintain a late lead and take the set 25-18.

In the second match of the day, Binghamton fell to Eastern Washington University in five sets (25-19), (25-21), (25-22), (31-29) and (16-14).

The Bearcats took the first set 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead over the Eagles. In the game, Sarah Ngo posted 11 assists and Erin Shultz lead the team with 6 kills.

Eastern Washington topped Binghamton (25-21) in set two to tie the match 1-1.The Eagles got out to an early 3-0 and although the Bearcats battled back, their efforts fell short and EWU took the set.

The Bearcats won the third set 25-22 after getting out to an early 11-5 lead on a big kill from Shultz. Kim Lavendar served five straight points for the Bearcats to claim the victory.

In the fourth set, both teams went back and forth, EWU eventually battling to a 31-29 lead. After an 18-18 tie, the Eagles and the Bearcats continued to go point for point until EWU scored on a Binghamton serving error and ended the game on an ace.

The Eagles got off to an early lead in the final set but the Bearcats battled back to a 14-14 tie but their efforts fell short as EWU scored the 15th and 16th point on Binghamton attacking errors to take the final match of the day

Shultz lead the Bearcats in the second match with 18 kills. Ngo added 49 assists and 16 digs for a double-double for Binghamton.

Binghamton is back in action tomorrow for the final game of the tournament at 2:30 EST against UC Davis.
