Volleyball Drops Two Matches Saturday

Bearcats fall to Syracuse and Bryant

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team (3-10) dropped two matches at the Asics Invitational on Saturday. The Bearcats fell to Syracuse (7-5), 3-0, and Bryant (8-7), 3-1 at the Mack Physical Education Center.

In the first match, the Bearcats fell to the Orange in three sets, 18-25, 12-25 and 23-25.

Binghamton took an early lead in the first set but couldn't hold on, eventually falling 25-18.

In the second, Syracuse maintained a lead the entire set and were able to top the Bearcats 25-12.

The third set was the most competitive, with both teams going point-for-point. The score was knotted at 23, but the Orange scored the final two points and took the set and the match.

Gaby Alicea led Binghamton in the first match with 11 points on 10 kills while Kaelan Haag added nine kills. Sarah Ngo recorded 32 assists and Samantha Gioiosa had 17 digs.

Bryant took the second match of the day in four sets, 18-25, 25-22, 18-25 and 14-25.

The Bulldogs won the first set, but the Bearcats came back strong winning the second. In the second game, Binghamton got out to a 7-2 lead and Bryant could never make up the difference. BU took the set 25-22.

Bryant won the third and fourth sets to take the match 3-1.

Alicea again led the Bearcats with 17 points on 13 kills and added 21 digs. Ngo recorded a double-double with 26 assists and 16 digs.

Gaby Alicea represented Binghamton on the all-tournament team.

Binghamton is back in action next Friday when they open the conference season at Albany.
