Volleyball falls to Albany In Conference Opener

Bearcats drop match to Great Danes 3-1

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team (3-11) fell to Albany (1-12), 3-1 at University Gym in the America East opener.

Albany won the match in four sets, 17-25, 20-25, 25-14 and 23-25.

The Great Danes got out to an early 6-2 lead, but the Bearcats battled back to a 8-7 deficit. Albany then went on to score three straight points to extend their lead and maintain it for the rest of the set, eventually winning 25-17.

In the second set, it was Binghamton that got out to an early lead 11-5 lead. Albany then scored six straight points to tie the game and later take the lead and win the set.

Binghamton hung tough in the third set, winning 25-14 to avoid the sweep. But their efforts fell short in the fourth set and Albany was able to take the set and the match.

Gaby Alicea led the Bearcats with 13 kills while Erin Shultz and Kristella Morina each added 11. Sarah Ngo recorded a double-double on 40 assists and 17 digs. Freshman Samantha Gioiosa added 22 digs for Binghamton.

Binghamton is back in action next Friday when they host UMass Lowell at the West Gym.
