VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton cross country/distance track program has received a National Letter of Intent (NLI) from five high school seniors as part of the current signing period. The four men and one woman will join the Bearcat program as freshmen next fall.

"This is such a fantastic group of student-athletes we are adding to our cross country and track programs," head coach Annette Acuff said. "We couldn't be more excited and I believe they each have the potential to contribute right away as freshmen.  To have five commitments by December is a record for us and it puts us ahead of our recruiting going into next year."

On the men's side, Ryan Guerci (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet H.S.) placed 51st overall at the recent Nike National Cross Country Meet. He was also sixth at the Nike New York/Northeast Regional Meet, third at the New York State (NYS) Class B Meet and won the Manhattan Invitational Varsity C individual title. At the 2018 NYS Indoor Track Championships, Guerci was 10th overall in the 3,200. His top times are 4:20 in the 1,600, 9:24 in the 3,200 and 15:20 in the 5,000.

Matt Cavaliere (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) placed 35th overall at the Nike New York/Northeast Regional Meet and was 23rd at the NYS Class A Meet. In addition, he was the runner up at the Class A, Section 2 Meet and won the Albany County title. At the 2018 NYS Outdoor Track Championships, Cavaliere was ninth overall in the 1,600. His top times are 4:16 in the 1,600 and 8:57 in the 3,000.

Martin Dolan (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) placed 27th overall at the Nike New York/Northeast Regional Meet and was 20th at the NYS Class A Meet. He also placed third overall at the Class A, Section 2 Meet and fourth at the Manhattan Invitational Varsity E meet.  At the 2018 NYS Outdoor Track Championships, Dolan was fifth overall in the 3,000 SC. His top times are 9:29 in the 3,200, 6:10 in the 2,000 SC and 9:29 in the 3,000 SC.

Nick DeFelice (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown) was 18th overall at the NYS Class A meet. At the 2018 NYS Outdoor Track Championships, he was sixth overall in the 3,000 SC. His top times are 4:27 in the mile, 6:13 in the 2,000 SC and 9:30 in the 3,000 SC.

On the women's side, Kyra Guerci (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) was 11th overall at the NYS Class B Meet. Her top times are 10:37 in the 3,000 and 19:08 in the 5,000.

The signing period will continue into the spring semester.
