Bearcats coming off season opener victory; game set for a 1 p.m. start time

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton women's lacrosse team (1-0) will head to Niagara Falls to take on the Niagara Purple Eagles Saturday at 1pm.

The Bearcats are coming off a strong season opener in which they took down Fresno State 14-8 in a rainy matchup at McCarthy Stadium. Nine different Bearcats got on the scoreboard while a team effort in goal, by senior Emma Jehle and sophomore Taylor Passuello, recorded nine saves in just 60 minutes.

Purple Eagles Preseason Pride

Saturday's matchup against Binghamton will be the first game of the season for the Purple Eagles. After a 9-10 season last year, Niagara will look to start off hot in their season opener against Binghamton. This year the The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) unanimously selected Niagara's Alexandra Higgins (Senior) and Rachel MacCheyne (Junior) to the 2018 preseason All-MAAC Team after their record shattering performances last season. Thus, leading their team to their first MAAC Semifinal appearance since the 2003 season. In addition, the Purple Eagles were ranked fourth in the 2018 Preseason Coaches Poll marking their highest ranking since 2004.

In the last meeting

In Binghamton's last matchup against Niagara, the Bearcats walked away with a thrilling 11-10 victory. Binghamton's Tiffany Ryan scored four goals in the game including the go ahead goal with under two minutes to play. After two crucial saves in goal by Emma Jehle with under a minute left, Binghamton was able to hold onto the lead.

Binghamton has come away victorious in the last eight matchups against Niagara dating back to 2006. The Bearcats will look to improve on this stat Saturday afternoon.
