BU welcome BIG EAST power after weather forces site change; games at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball will welcome its most prominent visiting opponent in program history when the Bearcats (4-11) meet BIG EAST power St. John's (9-7) in a two-game weekend series at the Bearcats Baseball Complex. The teams were originally set to play a three-game set in Queens but heavy snow forced the site and schedule change. The teams will now play single games at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It's the first meeting between Binghamton and St. John's - a perennial NCAA tournament and nationally-ranked team.

The Bearcats are coming off their conference-opening series last weekend when BU took one of three at Stony Brook. Since starting the season 2-2, the Bearcats have gone 2-9 in their last 11 games. Of the team's 11 losses, however, seven have come by two or fewer runs. The team is hitting .237 and has a pitching ERA of 5.76.

Junior outfielder Anthony Meduri leads BU with a .360 average. He also has six doubles and 11 RBI in 12 games. Senior catcher Jason Agresti is batting .327 and has a .415 on-base percentage. Senior center fielder CJ Krowiak is hitting .288 and has team-highs of eight extra-base hits and 12 RBI.

On the hill, a pair of relievers lead the team in ERA. Sophomores Ben Anderson (3.18) and Jake Miller (2-0, 3.52 ERA) have been steady out of the bullpen. Junior lefty Robert Brown hasn't allowed a run in 5.2 innings of relief and freshman Reid VanScoter (4.15) has also been reliable in five appearances.

St. John's has a rich baseball history with 36 NCAA appearances (9th most in the nation). The Red Storm returned 12 pitchers and four starting position players from a 42-13 team that played in the NCAAs last spring - the program's third straight NCAA berth and 10th in 14 years. They had four all-region selections and three MLB draft picks in the spring. As a team, St. John's is hitting .291 and has a pitching ERA of 2.52.

The Bearcats will likely face the reigning National Freshman Pitcher of the Year, All-American and BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, Sean Mooney (4-1, 3.25 ERA). Senior third baseman John Valente, a first team all-conference and all-region choice in 2017, powers the Red Storm offense with a .418 average, three home runs and 14 RBI.

Binghamton is 2-2 all-time against the BIG EAST. The Bearcats are 1-1 vs. Boston College, 1-0 vs. Villanova and 0-1 vs. Georgetown.
