Softball faces Stony Brook in AE series at Cornell

Bearcats and Seawolves to play Saturday DH at noon, single noon game on Sunday





STORY LINES

- Binghamton (10-15, 3-2 AE) split an America East doubleheader on Wednesday at Albany. The Bearcats dropped the opener 10-0 but bounced back to win the nightcap 6-5. Sophomore first baseman Kassidy Seary drilled a three-run home run and senior outfielder Jessica Rutherford drove in a pair of runs.

- Rutherford, who has a nine-game hitting streak, continues to lead the Bearcats and ranks fourth in the America East in batting (.379). Senior third baseman Kate Richard is hitting .304 and is tied for first in the conference with five home runs. She is also second in the America East with 19 RBI. Sophomore pitcher Rayn Gibson is 5-6 but has won five of her past six decisions and is the current America East Pitcher of the Week.

- Stony Brook (13-14, 2-3 AE) split a midweek America East doubleheader at UMBC on Wednesday. The Seawolves lost the first game 9-7 but came back to win the nightcap 12-2. Riley Craig had a team-best five RBI in the victory.

- Melissa Rahrich leads Stony Brook and is third in the America East with a .397 batting average. Taylor Pechin is tied for first with five home runs while Irene Rivera is fifth with 17 RBI. On the mound, Rahrich is 7-7 so far this season.

- Stony Brook leads the all-time series 34-21. Last year, the Seawolves swept a May 6 home doubleheader 2-1 and 4-1. One week later, however, the Bearcats won 11-4 in an America East Tournament elimination game. Current senior second baseman Jillian Bovitt drove in a game-high three runs in the conference tournament victory.
