Bearcats and Big Red meet for second time this season

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (10-22-1) welcomes its closest neighbor to the Bearcats Baseball Complex tonight when Cornell (8-17-1) comes to town for a 6:30 p.m. game. It's BU's first night game of the season and second-ever after the two teams played under the lights last April.

Binghamton dropped two of three to Albany over the weekend and has now lost seven of its last eight. With nine conference games remaining, BU will be a dogfight to qualify for the America East tournament. The Bearcats currently sit in last place but are just two games out of second place in the tightly-packed standings. The team is hitting .240 and has a pitching staff ERA of 4.89.

Sophomore Jake Miller (2-0, 4.26) returns from injury to get the start today. Senior center fielder CJ Krowiak had a strong week, hitting .438 (7-for-16) in five games.

Cornell is coming off a series win at Penn over the weekend. The Big Red took Games 1 (10-9) and 3 (7-6) to move to 4-8 (7th place) in the eight-team Ivy League.

Junior right-hander Adam Saks (0-0, 5.73 ERA) will make his second start of the year.

Senior outfielder Dale Wickham leads the team in hitting (.298), home runs (5) and RBI (25).

The team is batting .240 and has a pitching ERA of 5.65.

Binghamton and Cornell met two weeks ago up in Ithaca and settled for a 5-5 tie when umpires declared there wasn't enough light to finish the 10th inning. The Bearcats outhit their hosts 12-7 but left 12 runners stranded. The two programs will play another game at the Complex on May 2.

Cornell leads the all-time series 20-15-1. Aside from the tie two weeks ago, the Big Red have won the last three decisions after BU had won three straight. Last April in Vestal, Cornell rolled to a 10-2 win.
